Landscaping melbourne company – Xeriscaping is landscape design with a goal of reducing or eliminating the need for supplemental water. With the recent droughts and water restrictions in the Melbourne area, xeriscaping makes a lot of sense. I’ve had several clients interested in the last couple of years, and I’m going to share with you what I’ve shared with them:

Xeriscaping results in a different look than traditional landscaping. For instance, a xeriscaped garden will have a wild, natural look to it as opposed to a more formal traditional garden. This is because xeriscaping makes use of native plants and other low-water vegetation rather than more traditional garden plants.
Xeriscaping can’t provide a grassy lawn. Unfortunately, a grassy backyard needs to be watered. There is no low-water substitute for grass… at least not yet. There are some people who are committed enough to xeriscaping that they do without grass in their yard—but most of my clients have preferred to xerascape only certain elements of their overall landscape.
Xeriscaping can save you money. A xeriscaped landscape does not require a sprinkler system, and shouldn’t require any watering once rooted. Over several years, this results in a whole lot less water usage and can save you a substantial amount of money.
Xeriscaping is great for the environment. Obviously, saving water is a good thing for the environment. But more importantly, with its emphasis on native plants, xeriscaping is beneficial for our Melbourne environment. Native plants require little or no pesticides and fertilizers. Native plants also provide food and shelter for many native Melbourne animals—whereas many non-native decorative plants do not provide proper food sources or appropriate shelter for our native wildlife.
